No it's not. Once you purchase the product it is yours - provided you don't infringe any trademarks/copyrights etc then you will be fine. For example you couldn't buy a Ralph Lauren polo, rip out the tags & put in Sean's Brand tags as you would be using the RL pony logo! If the polo was totally unbranded then you could remove the tags & place Sean's Brand tags in them (provided you give all the required info. Basically you'd need to copy the info from the original tags onto your new tags). This type of thing is common practise & is done by many brands (not for jeans so much but definately for tees/tops). You can tell when a brand does this as the stiching is dodgy, there is some crap taping on the inside neck over the stitching or the tag is sewn on over the tape. I can't remember which brand it was that did it - but I purchased a top & it was clear that one tag had been removed & a new one sewn in it's place. You could even see a little bit of the old tag under the new tag. The brand was a decent designer brand - just can't remember who it was though.
To be honest your best bet is to visit the KMO forum -
Kitmeout Designer Clothes Evisu Jeans Boss Red Monkey Jeans Tsubi Bape Armani as there have been a few topics about this in the past - I'm sure I've posted on this subject quite a bit. Plus there are a few people who post who actually have their own brands or work in the industry. One of the guys started Ed Hardy!!
The problem with buying in jeans is that they will be branded alot more than a tee. On a tee you pretty much have a label - that's it. On jeans, you have the label, the waistpatch, the buttons, the back pockets etc. You would have to remove a fair bit of stuff or replace it to cover up the fact you've puchased $10 jeans!! Obviously this would be alot cheaper than getting them manufactured to your requirements. Maybe a good idea to test out some designs first to see how they look.
It's not an easy industry to get into - there are probably hundreds of brands launched a day and only a tiny % make anything happen & an even smaller % hit the big time!!
HTH!
