You will have probably noticed that many genuine RMC have a small (usually red) tab on the centre rear of the Yoke on the jeans, kinda looks similar to the type of thing you see on Levis jeans. Here are the genuine ones.

One thing they all have in common whatever jeans they are found on, is that the inside of the tab is aways the same colour as the outside of the tab. Bear in mind though that not all RMC's even have a tab on the rear, and to confuse things futher you can get two pairs of the same design, one will have a tab and the other wont. I think that is to identify which territory they were released in, in a similar way the laser numbers do.

There are 3 colours of tab, 1st up is Red, the most common an found on many RMC designs;

Next up is Black, not very common and seen on a very few designs, one example is the AAAA Like Black collab design;

Lastly we have the more recent addition of a White Tab. Again not many RMC feature this, but here is a couple of designs, one pair of jeans and a pair of waves shorts.

Good stuff. To add the reason why the jeans in US seldom have the tab is because of a legal issue with Levi's from few years back. The same applies to majority of the Japanese Denim brands selling the States lack the tab. But there are some countries that opt to sell the "tab-less" jeans outside the States as well. Nice one Dunny.

Cheers guys, yeah Tony I think you are right about Levis being a little sensative to other denim brands using a red tab ( the likes of Sugarcane and Ironheart had to literally cut them off before distributing them outside Japan LOL). They took many a denim company to task over it including threatening legal action if I remember correctly. I think RMC was largely unaffected because the red tab was in a different position, but it certainly made many denim brands think about changing to having no tab just in case Levis still had a go at them.

Yeah Dunny. The guys in Japan mentioned that it got pretty sensitive and indeed the japanese (and other) denim brands had to get rid of the tabs. I mean for instance when making orders for the japanese denim you usually got a choice whether you want the jeans to be produced with or without the tab. Well at least in europe and asia we've got a choice, heh.
