Ok guys, i have this disk with some important documents in it which is around 3 years old. The disk is now scratched, but hasnt reached the foil, so basically the data is still ok but my disk player stops responding or doesnt recognise the disk. Am i able to repair this professionally? or am i wrong and the data really is damaged. It has some deep scratches as well as milions of very light ones.
I dont know but i thought a cratch repair would try to fix the code in the disk and add protection...but I never had the problem before so i havent used it I just heard about it
i had this problem once and i took it to some computer repair shop and i think the guy used some cd scratch repair thing or some similar thing to that and in the end he made me a new cd of data..so ur best bet is to get professional help unless u wanna take the risk
Yeah, if it is important data let an expert deal with it. Many computer shops have proffessional CD/DVD scratch repair machines, the data is probably OK, its the carbonate surface which is likely refracting the laser beam when it tries to read the disc, the scratches if severe will cause the laser beam to misread. Obviously if the disc has very deep scratches then it might be that the data layer has also been damaged in which case it may be impossible to ever retrieve the information on it. Also try several different drives, some are more fussy than others when it comes to disc reading, if you can find one, maybe a friends computer that can read it, copy it straight away without delay cos it might be your only chance.
