Question Red Monkey Jeans Wooden Boxes - 04-01-2010, 01:08 PM

I just want to know if all Red Monkey Jeans come in wooden boxes. I have been asking several of stores (bagga, togged, and madness) and I have been getting several responses. I know that Togged ships all their Red Monkey Jeans in wooden boxes and Madness will ship the jeans in a wooden box for additional shipping fee. Bagga states that the only the limited edition jeans come in wooden boxes.

The reason I bring this up is because I order a pair of colored lady octopus jeans from togged last year and they shipped in a wooden box but I recently order the same jeans from bagga and they shipped it without a box. I think the jeans are more appealing with the wooden box, it adds to exclusive feel and design.

I could understand that online stores do not want to ship the jeans in the wooden box, in order to save on the shipping cost. However, they should let the customer choose whether or not they want the box.

I am new to the forum and to the brand. So far, I only have three Red Monkeys. Looking for a size 36 Warlord.

Thanks,
Jorge

By right, RMC do not come with wooden boxes anymore but with tote bag. The answers you get are correct from madness and bagga. Togged provide the jeans with wooden boxes since they are the official distributor of RMC/Yoropiko. Most retailers chose to not carry the wooden boxes due to additional shipping charges and cost.

Hope to see your jeans soon amida. Did you try emailing sales@rmcjeans.co.uk to find out if they have any Warlords left?

Welcome to the forum amida, the situation with the wooden boxes is complicated for a number of reasons. Officially wooden boxes are no longer supplied for the majority of RMC now as it is an environmental decision made by Martin Ksohoh to no longer use wood products, although Ive long argued the pine could be obtained from sustainable sources. It is for that reason the Tote bags are mainly used.

Special RMC's like the Toyo, Gods, Warlord and collabs, etc often come in a special etched box which will often match the design of the jeans and that continues to be so. Also special releases continue to be released in a wooden box, but my understanding is that once the current stock of boxes is exhausted then that will be the last we will see of them. Regards distributors having boxes, well thats a decision for them, they can purchase as many boxes as they have jeans if they choose but the additional cost to the consumer and of course the postage means many choose not to bother.

Another big problem with the boxes from a distibutors point of view is that of shipping them in from Hong Kong. Wood products have to remain in bonded storage for a period of time before being released ( its to stop insect infestations etc.,) and also have to be contained such that the wood doesnt wharp or twist while being shipped. All of this process adds considerably to the costs and this has to be passed onto the consumer.

I personally always prefer to recieve a wooden box, like you say it makes the purchase complete but also protects the jeans as well. I would always opt to pay that bit extra to ensure I get a box but not everybody is bothered about having the box to be honest.

Is it possible to just purchace the box by itself? And if so how much would it be?

Hmmm not really sold as a seperate item unfortunately partly for two reasons. The first is that if boxes are sold serperately then eventually there wouldnt be enough stock for the jeans that they would be originally paired with, but even more importantly would be that given a box often helps establish a pair of RMC are genuine then unscrupulous individuals would buy boxes en mass and put fakes inside them!

i have also seen very good fake boxes...but the old design was faked.
indistinguishable from the real ones.

but the newer wooden boxes used since 2007 are not easy to fake.

i´ve seen those wooden boxes go for $30-$60 each, depending if old or new one. but the newer boxes are worth more.

Thanks, the for information. I appreciate Martin's view with saving the environment but I do agree with Dunny that boxes can be continued with the sustainable trees.

I guess if I want the jeans with the box, I am just going to order them on Togged.

Big ups to Shin for giving me a lead on finding warlords.
