Default washing your jeans - 06-18-2008, 07:40 AM

Since im not a real expert on denim, ive been walking around with this question:

Do you guys ever wash your denims? And if you have to, how?

Ive seem to mess a few 'cheap' jeans up, by washing them. totally wrecked the look of them.
This could be a good thread for newbies like me

I wash my jeans like once a week, in a washing machine, like I wash any other piece of clothing, haha. No special treatment.

I haven't washed my RMCs yet as I haven't worn them all that much yet. But every other brand has gone through few spins in the washing machine and they have all survived to see another day.

Actually I feel that most of my jeans feel better after few washes. But I am sure some can disagree.

well, 1 very obvious change would be your pockets which would start fraying, and it will shrink, if you put it in the dryer your waist patch would be crumpled if dried too long.

If you want to clean your RMC's never put them in the normal washing machine. When you spend upwards of £250 on a pair of Jeans pay extra to get them professionally dry cleaned or you risk shrinking them, and making them look tatty. Only normal wash them on a hot wash if you desperatly need to shrink them because you bought the wrong size or lost weight. Be careful when Ironing them too, use paper on the denim and Iron on that to prevent burns, and maybe use a little spray starch to stiffen the denim back up again. And as Evisu advise, if you want to keep your jeans looking new for longer, just buy lots of pairs and wear each one less!!

Most supermarkets stock it, its a nozzle spray bottle, as you iron the jeans you just lightly mist over them and then the denim stays flat and will be more like the way you bought them ( sort of cardboardy). This is how I treated my Evisu No1's after washing to get them like new again after they shrunk to my size. Of course if you want to age your denim then this is probably best avoided.

I never wash my jeans I'm afraid they'll shrink too much.
