The use of quality selvedge denim certainly isnt something which RMC created, to be fair many other Japanese brands produced and still produce denim that is as good as RMC, all be it that in the main RMC is still unusual in that the cotton used in the denim manufacture is unbleached organic cotton. Bear in mind most other quality denim brands use bleached cotton in their construction still, as to whether that makes any difference to the quality is a moot point..
What seperates RMC from the rest is the embroidery. Yes I know other brands like Evisu produced simple Embroidered jeans prior to RMC but really they didnt do designs on the scale or complexity of RMC, and it was RMC's popularity that effectively created the mass of copy brands like Coogi, Artful Dodger, and the hundreds of other brands who now apply heavy use of embroidery to their jeans designs.
Something that all the other embroidered jean makers didnt do was to produce their jeans using high quality materials. Take away the embroidery from a pair of RMC completely and you are still left with a very high quality pair of jeans that can rival any brand in the world purely on quality.
Of course Yoropiko took the quality level a step futher, not only producing amazingly complex embroideries, but making the jeans construction full selvedge throughout. Now again other denim brands have full selvedge consruction Jeans, ( Kicking Mule and Red Ear come to mind but its still rare ) but not many go futher still and add such embelishments as jewel encrusted Gold buttons along with the embroideries.
One thing I have always maintained is that no matter if you love or hate the designs of RMC/Yoropiko, and lets be fair its a very specific taste style wise, nobody can ever say the product is rubbish. Even the biggest denim fanatics would have to conceed that on a construction level RMC is very good. I liken it to Bape/BBC/Ice Cream in that respect. Doesnt matter if the product isnt really your style, fact is all RMC product is well made.
I can think of many more expensive brands where frankly the quality against the selling price was frankly appaling and no more so than in the arena of premium denim, where you can pay upwards of $500 for a pair of jeans that in my opinion were no better than you can buy from Walmart. You really are just paying for the name and the celebs that wear it.
Finally even if the quality and design isnt enough to persuade you to purchase, consider also the exclusivity of the product. Yeah you hear of lots of brands claiming "limited edition", what does that mean, limited to what, how many they can sell??? You will not see other people wearing what you are wearing for one simple reason, there isnt enough made for that to ever happen. I mean if only 50 pairs of a particular design are made whats the chance realistically out of the 6 billion people on the planet that you are gonna bump into one of the other 50 who bought the same design?? OK some might suggest that nobody would buy purely because something is so limited, but fashion is a funny thing, who really wants to walk into a club and see 10 other guys wearing the exact same high street gear as you are? Even well know brands like G Star, Henleys, Diesel, etc you see loads of guys wearing it, how you gonna stand out from the crowd.
Really I could go on forever ( I already have some are probably asleep now LOL) and yes I'm a fanboy and proud of it!
