This brand needs no introduction. The Year Of... brand kept low profile last year (The Year Of the Ox) and released only few denim lines for Hong Kong market only. The brand did however revamp their site and introduce new projects for the Year of the Tiger.
The latest addition to the brand catalog is The Year Of... Tiger Sake.
This premium "Daiginjo" was brewed by the superb water from the famous Ibuki Mountain, in Japan in the beginning of 2009. The family that brewed the sake has been brewing sake since 1672. That's over 300 years of sake brewing. After brewing the sake has been frozen for a year and then bottled in 2010 for the year of the tiger.
The artwork is courtesy of Simon Birch and features the famous yellow tiger by Wong Cho Jim on the label. The sake is limited to 120 bottles with 20 bottles including "gold flake" sake. The gold flake sake bottles go to few lucky customers randomly with some auctioned at Simon Birch Hope and Glory Exhibition in April. They say evolution is key to survival and I like what I see with the expansion of The Year Of.. brand. Tony Magnetic is also working on a new line for the year. The question remains whether this one will be exclusively for Hong Kong or for the rest of the world to enjoy as well.
Well we'll see how the brand evolves from here on but will keep everyone posted on my
blog.
