I expect avid collectors would buy two of the same pair if they were very rare, or even as a future investment for sale.

I know sometimes I try and buy 2 of stuff. Use/wear one and keep the other - if it's important (e.g. signed Paul Smith book).

fair point about signed stuff. if martin sign a few pairs i would try to buy them up for posterity.
