I think it is because these were the designs that really brought the brand to the attention of the public and they were made in much more limited quantities than they are now, thus they are much more collectable. I can certainly see his point, its hard to beat the classic designs like Hokusai Waves, Bondage, etc., and given we are seeing a return to RMC's roots in designs like Mad Patch and a new release of Fu and Ra I think even Martin is looking at inspiration from his own early designs. Thats not to say that the new designs are not as good, the new releases of Toyo Story and of course my favourite RMC Octopus lady have elements of the older designs in them and are stunning. The theme used in many newer designs has moved from being directly influenced by oriental folklore and art, designs such as King Kong and Rock RMC come to mind, and if you buy RMC for its connection to Chinese and Japanese culture then perhaps these wont be to your likng so much. Old or new, personally I love em all!
