Default French Hip-Hop icons : they sell fakes - 06-07-2009, 07:36 PM

I live near from la 125st, the store of La Fouine, a french rapper. I went to see several times how like it was, and I saw many fakes. Evisu, Arftul Dodger and RMC jeans that were fakes, Bapestas fakes etc ..

This rapper is named Booba, he is the French 50 cent
His shop was opened recently. He only bought the place. The previous store on that place was already selling many "fapes" (bape fakes) and BBC fakes. He bought it to introduce and sell his brand, unküt, which is not so bad at least. The 1st time I entered the store, I saw also RMC jeans with unkut clothes. I thinked "yeah he knows about style", but I when I examined the jeans I saw it was only fake ! And he tries to sell it for 110-120$

I'd like to tell them what is real style

What a shame that an aspiring hip hop artist owns a shop which is selling fake gear. I dought he would even know that what is being sold is fake to be honest, he probably just pours the money in and lets somebody else run the place and order the stock. I expect he would be very embarrased if he found out! I didnt see any RMC in the video but he appeared to be showcasing his own UNKUT brand.

Well ain't that a shame. If people knew what he was selling he'll be a laughing stock. He should hire you and get you to order the stocks in for him lol.

Hip Hop community is always very particular about being real. That being said rocking fakes, whether it's you chain, watch or jeans can easily title you as a fake. Heh... Still it's interesting to every now and then come across even mainstream artists rocking fake apparel, sometimes you just don't know better. Also with the economic situation being what it is, more and more artists are switching from high quality gold and diamonds to less karats and even synthetic diamonds. Read an interesting article about it just recently.

To quote Miguel Bustillo's article Culture of Bling Clangs to Earth as the Recession Melts Rappers' Ice, "You gotta understand, it is every rapper's fear to be exposed as a fraud," said Gregory Lewis of Brooklyn, who posts conversations with artists on the Internet under the alias "Doggie Diamonds, the interview king." "If you admit you wear fake jewelry, it is over for you. It's like bragging you drive a Lamborghini when you really drive a Toyota."

ou can check the article at:
Culture of Bling Clangs to Earth as the Recession Melts Rappers' Ice - WSJ.com

Stay true everyone...

I never understand all this front rappers put on. I mean they often go on about coming from "the Projects" or "the Hood" and how much they love the street and keeping it real and all that. Surely the fact that they are suffering financially and cannot afford such genuine luxuries anymore puts them back amongst us mere mortals. I know people look up to them and aspire to their success and wealth but if you really want to keep it real and touch base with the common man, then just buy what you can afford. All this fake rubbish to impress people is worthless. If you cannot afford admission you shouldnt be in the club! Peace.

Indeed. I guess it is somewhat similar to the Asian culture where saving your face is all important. Well it is what it is I suppose... heh...
