This is a discussion on History of the YOROPIKO logo within the Yoropiko forums, part of the category.

Just wondered if anyone knew the history of the Yoropiko logo? Is it true Paul Smith had something to do with it?...

Got me stumped CD, I guess only Martin can tell you its origin, however given that I have seen similar images to the yoropiko doll design throughout Chinese and Japanese Culture I expect it is a caricature of these.

well if it's the japanese flower crest, we've seen that in many places.. if it's the buddha gutta then maybe we can link it back to buddha gutta rmc?

i only know that the yoro flower is on the mask rmc and the buddha was first occured on the buddha gutta rmc.

a while ago, i thought the yoro flower would be an abstract version of the hong kong flag

but i´m really not sure, havent thought too much about it yet
it really has to be very abstract then, but that´s the only idea i have :-/

well i have no theory for the buddha gutta logo, but looking at it, it looks like the buddha of happiness and 2 ancient japanese musical instruments. i would presume, martin's idea of happiness and fun. for the other, i'm pretty sure it's a japanese crest. for example..

these crest are said to be family crest, maybe it something to do with his family?

Yeah the crests that Shin showed us are very common in Japanese culture, the lotus flower is also a common theme in the Buddhist religion too. There are many Clan crests, much like we have coats of arms in European culture. If I remember correctly Yoropiko means something like " Teach me more" I am not exactly certain of that as I dont speak Chinese/Japanese, so maybe the Doll logo is representative of a young child who has no preconceived ideas and is open minded, thus describing creativeness. Its all very fascinating and I am sure that the concepts behind Martins Yoropiko brand comes from personal experiences.

Right then, ive done a little more research and this is what Yoropiko means: YOROPIKO, a playful term created by Martin based on the Japanese word “Yoroshiku”, which means “suggestion welcome!”.
